Get ready to love your Christmas fruit and vegies from your head tomatoes. That’s the word from North Balwyn’s iconic greengrocer, Signorelli’s.
Colin and Dean Signorelli hold the kiwi to your heart this Christmas with the best in the new season of fruit and vegetables. You can be assured your Christmas entertaining will have the fresh of the freshest from Signorelli’s to excite your family and friends.
Colin and Dean will make sure of that. The boys are at work at 1am each day to make sure they bring the freshest of market produce to their customers.
“We can all see the weather hasn’t been great for this year’s crop, but all the Christmas favourites will be available, although a bit more expensive than previous years as supply is at a premium.
“There are plenty of berries, including strawberries and blueberries and a good supply of lychees from Queensland. Most stonefruit is great from Swan Hill, Mildura, Shepparton, Cobraham and other parts of northern Victoria. There should be good supply of stone fruit as the weather has started to improve,” Coliin Signorelli says.
“If the rain slows up between now and Christmas, a lot of the crop will be saved. The grapes should be nice this Christmas coming from Queensland and New South Wales.”
Colin says vegetables are resilient to the weather for the reason being that they grow quickly. The most popular vegetables this Christmas are likely to be cauliflower, carrots, peas, beans and brussels sprouts.
“Of course potatoes will always take centre place on the Christmas table.”
Signorelli’s is a full service greengrocer also offering quiches, cold cut meats including ham on and off the bone and many other specialty goods.
“Panettone has grown in popularity over the years and now we have the best of the best of Italian panettone on sale in Australia. We bring the Italian Christmas cake to the Australian festive season.
“Nuts are also popular at Christmas. We bought extra supplies of walnuts so as not to run out.
“Put it this way, your favourite fruit and vegetables and many specialty lines, only available this time of year at their freshest and best, will be available. They won’t be missing from our shelves. And even if we get 40 days and 40 nights of rain, we’re searching hard and stocking up to bring the freshest of produce to everyone’s Christmas table,” Colin Signorelli says.
