North Balwyn Village starts a new year and we have enjoyed seeing our regulars back at the Village refreshed from the festive season and summer break.
School is back and we look forward to seeing all the parents enjoying some chill time at our cafes and having a stroll down the street after school drop off. We’re sure you’re looking forward to some “self-time” after six weeks of being chief cook and entertainer to the younger members of the family.
There is so much to choose from at The Village from food, coffees, beauty, professional services, fresh meat and vegetables, delectable artisan bread and how about something new for the wardrobe … The Village at North Balwyn has it all.
As we start a new year we take you back circa 70 years ago to what The Village looked like back then. Check out the shops at North Balwyn Village in the mid-1950s.
Can you identify any that have continued today as the same shop they were back then?
This delectable page has been provided by Cambria Parkinson. Cambria Parkinson, a former resident of North Balwyn, vividly remembers the charm and quirks of her old neighbourhood in the 1940s. Having grown up amidst the semi-rural landscapes of Melbourne’s east, she recalls a time of milk carts, ice deliveries, and the steady hum of the Number 48 tram.
